Workshop on Concrete 3D Printing
Monday, October 24th. A workshop on “3D Printing of concrete elements” will be held by our PhD student Valentina Mercuri for the students of the Oskar Von Miller Forum program, Münich.
In the last few decades AM has changed not only the production paradigms, but also the distribution chain with new implications from a technological, social, economic, and legal point of view. In architecture and civil engineering, it is expected that such approach will reduce costs and the production time leading to much freedom on design of shapes. The aim of this workshop is to give an overview on the “state of art” of AM and 3D printing, with a particular focus on its application and impact in the construction field. A description of the current applications of AM to civil engineering will be presented followed by an introduction of a novel approach for the fabrication of RC members based on 3D printing technology.

IDEA Consult Report
IDEA Consult has finalized a study on “Identifying current and future application areas, existing industrial value chains and missing competences in the EU, in the area of additive manufacturing (3D printing)”, commissioned by the European Commission, DG Grow. The EC has published the full report on September 21st; it is accessible through http://ec.europa.eu/growth/tools-databases/newsroom/cf/itemdetail.cfm?item_id=8937.
The study was executed by a consortium led by IDEA Consult and further composed of VTT Finland, the Austrian Institute of Technology and CECIMO, the European Association of the Machine Tool Industries.
